The name's Woodward, Sarah Harrison Woodward

Well, this is one of those stories that ends happily... the crisp shiny letter from the Social Security Administration arrived at the apartment. You can only imagine the excitement... and fear that overwhelmed me as I neatly ripped the envelope to reveal my new social security card... Sarah Harrison Woodward. It's true, folks.

Well, next it was time to go to the DMV. If the actual DMV was any reflection of its website... let's just say I was concerned that I would still have difficulties sealing the deal, so to speak. After one failed attempt to go to DMV as they were closed the Saturday before Martin Luther King Jr Day, we made a second attempt about 1.5 hours before the start of the Duke-Georgetown game (we will leave that one alone)... It seemed bleak; so many people were before us. After about 15 minutes, our number was called and within 5 minutes, I had a new driver's license in the District of Columbia (she shredded my VA license- no worries, I am still a Virginian at heart).
Shifting to the photo line, we glanced to at the receipt and what would it say, but Sarah Elizabeth Woodward. Yes, it's true. Even more interesting is that when Ben attempted to point the mistake out to me by exclaiming, "Sarah Elizabeth Woodward!" I did not blink an eye. Elizabeth has been my middle name for 25 years... So, we rushed back to the desk and, once again, the name was already in the system, but more easily corrected than the social security card, she added the correct name into the computer. I was never more intent on making sure that the man who would take my picture and turn my information into a handy form of identification, that he got the name right. Needless to say, we walked out of the DMV with a new license and a correct name, which you are most certainly familiar with by this point. Now it is just a process of getting used to the new name and I will say, it has been pretty easy. Someone called at work asking for "Sarah Harrison" and, being the stand-in receptionist right now, I am always racking my brain when a "foreign" name is requested. It took me a moment to realize that the woman on the other end of the phone wanted to speak to me. I guess this is a good indication that the new name has stuck.

Don't you realize that you married one on NC's finest young men, raised by great NC parents, educated at one of our state's finest institutions of higher learning and you met each other on some of our finest soil? I am sooo disappointed that you would not at least stake some claim to being a "Carolina Girl". Disclaimer: "Carolina Girls" does not mean that you attended or support The University of North Carolina.

Note to old paratrooper:
You do know that that this one who is one of NC's finest was born in Danville, VA, don't you? His grandmother, (my mother) was born in and grew up in VA (Stanley, Page Co.) And of course they were married in Richmond. So he does have strong ties to VA, and really, there is nothing wrong with that. Now I was born at Duke Hospital, and there is really nothing wrong with that either.
